This afternoon, Rubaga Cathedral resonated with joy and celebration as Speaker Anita Among graced the holy union of Charles Bbale Mayiga and his beloved wife, Sonia Elizabeth Nabagereka.
Charles Bbale Mayiga, the son of the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, exchanged vows with his bride in a ceremony officiated by Rt. Rev. Bishop Serverus Jjumba of Masaka Catholic Diocese.
The wedding ceremony, attended by esteemed dignitaries including Nnabagereka of Buganda, Sylvia Nagginda, and Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, among others, was a testament to the union’s significance within the Buganda community and beyond.
Rt. Rev. Jjumba emphasized the divine guidance required for a successful union, urging the newlyweds to uphold their marriage vows and let God be the foundation of their relationship.
“This covenant requires divine guidance. Uphold and honor your marriage vows, and let God be the foundation. Above all, cherish and support one another,” he imparted.
Speaker Among, in her role as the chief guest, expressed gratitude to the parents of the newlyweds for imparting the values and traditions of African society, particularly emphasizing the sanctity of marriage.
She offered counsel to the couple, urging them to nurture their marriage on a foundation of true love and companionship.
“Coming from diverse backgrounds, you bring different values and perspectives. It’s crucial to find common ground to build a harmonious life together. Cultivate a deep friendship, as it is the cornerstone of a lasting relationship,” Among advised.
She further counseled Sonia to honor and be submissive to her husband, encouraging her to embrace her new family as her own. “Sonia, as you enter this new family, consider your in-laws as your own parents. Be a supportive partner and respect your husband’s role.
Personally, after my duties in the House, I prioritize my role as a wife. At home, I am devoted to caring for Mr. Magogo. Similarly, maintain balance between your roles,” Speaker Among shared.
As a gesture of goodwill, Speaker Among presented the couple with 10 heads of cattle, extending her wishes for a joyful and prosperous marriage.
The ceremony concluded with prayers and well-wishes for the newlyweds as they embark on this journey together, supported by their families, friends, and the community at large.
